Sophie Evans joins the cast of ‘King Arthur – The Legend’

West End star Sophie Evans has joined the cast of Green Bay’s drama-documentary about the Myths and Legends of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

The Over the Rainbow singer – currently touring North America with Lord of the Dance – took to social media to tell her fans how much she’d enjoyed playing the role of Arthur’s queen, Guinevere, in the production which is being made for S4C and will be sold to channels all over the world by the Dutch distributors Off The Fence.

The programme will recreate the magical, mystical world of the legend – and Sophie’s character, Guinevere, finds herself at the apex of a love triangle, as both the King and his most trusted knight, Sir Lancelot, are entranced by her charms.

Much of the filming was done on location at the fairytale castle of Castell Coch, Tongwynlais on the outskirts of Cardiff. “Castell Coch was a fabulous stand-in for Arthur’s fabled court of Camelot” said director John Geraint. “We’ve had special backing for this project from Visit Wales, as the Welsh Government wants to use as part of the marketing for its ‘Year of Legends’ in 2017. This fantastic location combined with the talents of a star like Sophie Evans will certainly show off Wales to audiences across the globe.

“King Arthur is often seen as the perfect ruler, a leader from ancient times, whose values – of vision and honour, justice and self-sacrifice – speak to us today, and whose Knights of the Round Table are paragons of chivalry and romance. But there’s a lot more to the Legend than that, and our drama-documentary will dig down to the roots of the story and ‘reclaim’ Arthur for Wales.”
